Shoulder tendonitisTendinitis is the inflammation of the tendon and the sheath surrounding the tendon. The synovial sheath surrounding the tendon is the site for maximal inflammation. The cause of this disorder is generally unknown but is seen in middle aged to older people as there vascular condition of the tendon itself deteriorates over time. Repeated trauma to the area along with accentuated exercise may also precipitate the condition. Most common sites affected are the rotator cuff, the achilles tendon, patellar tendon as well as the knee, and the elbow.Shoulder tendinitis or rotator cuff tendinits , swimmers shoulder, tennis shoulder or shoulder impigment syndrome is it is also known. The rotator cuff (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis teres minor) holds the humeral head in the glenoid fossa of the scapula. Tearing and inflammation of these tendons and muscles usually occur in sports requiring the arm to be moved regularly over ones head for eg in baseball, swimming, cricket, backstroke, butterfly stroke, weightlifting, certain racket sports , and atheletics such as javelin throw and pole vault. Reaching forward causes the humeral head of the anteriorly flexed shoulder to aut the acromion and coracoacrominal ligament, which in turn is rubbed by the tendon of the supraspinatus. Chronic irritation can cause subacromial bursitis, inflammation and erosion of the tendons. Acute excessive force can eventually tear the rotator cuff. If exercise continues bdespie the pain , the lesion eventually progresses to periostitisand then to avulsion of the tendons from there attachment on the humeral tuberosities.Symptoms and signs; initially pain occurs only in sports which require the arm to be held over the head and forcibly brought forward,. Later pain may occur while moving the arm forwards to shake someones and. Usually pain is also elicited while pushing things away, with little or no pain while pulling things or objects in . to palpate the rotator cuff, abduct the arm backward and away from the body in internal rotation with elbow held straight. The patient may complain of tenderness over the tendons, especially when the arm is raised above the shoulder but often not while the arm is held down by the side. Severe pain is caused by the adduction of te arm across the chest. Humeral abduction is weak, usually because of an underuse atrophy of the deltoid. An MRI cannot usually detect the partial tear of a rotator cuff but can demonstrate a complete tear.Treatment; the injured tendons should be rested and the uninjured shoulder muscles strengthened. The patient should avoid pushing movements and instead should perform pulling movements, provided there is no further pain. Surgery may be found to be necessary in certain cases which are particularly severe, if there is a complete tear of the rotator cuff, or if the tendons do not eventually heal within 6 months. Localized NSAID treatment for 7 to 10 days is usually sufficient but sometimes injections and symptomatic treatment maybe required every 2 or 3 weeks for 1 to 2 months.... continue
Iron Deficiency Anemia: The Cause Iron deficiency anemia is a disorder wherein the blood lacks sufficient red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to tissue in the body. Your blood then gives your body energy and a healthy glow. Many people who are iron deficient look pale and sickly. This blood disorder is due to lack of iron in the diet. Hemoglobin is made of iron. Without iron, hemoglobin, found in red blood cells, cannot enable the cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. Studies show that women consistently are more susceptible to iron deficiency anemia, especially pubescent girls and pregnant women. The reason pubescent girls tend to be susceptible to iron deficiency anemia is because when they menstruate, they lose blood and the iron needs to be replaced. A study conducted by Dr. Michael Sharon, author of Nutrients A-Z noted that during a woman’s menstrual cycle, she can easily lose 10-15mg of iron. His study also revealed that women in pregnancy tend to lose 600-1000 mg. That’s a lot of iron. ... continue

Thyroid Condition: A Common Disease: Your thyroid is one of the most important glands in your body. Its main responsibility is to decide how the food you eat will be broken down, and also decide whether your body will use that food as immediate energy, or store it as an energy reserve. It uses two main hormones to complete this process, namely thyroxin and tri-iodothyronine. Having a thyroid condition causes a major problem in the body, because it throws this important process off, leading your body to react in many different ways. Some of them can be mistakenly attributed to other causes, and it may take some time and a good doctor to diagnose it properly, but proper diagnosis and treatment is the only way to put a thyroid back into commission. ... continue

Pituitary Disorder and Gland: The pituitary gland produces several different hormones, and when the gland is not functioning correctly one can end up with a pituitary disorder. When someone has a pituitary disorder, the pituitary gland either over produces or under produces hormones. The body needs a regulation of hormones in order to function properly. When the balance of hormones is not correct, problems will occur. The body will do battle with itself as it tries to regulate the hormones, and this will cause a great deal of stress on the body of the person. One will feel out of sorts when they are suffering from a pituitary disorder, and they will also have other symptoms. The symptoms must be explored so those who are suffering from the disorder can seek treatment.
Pituitary Disorder Symptom: When someone suffers from a pituitary disorder, they often identify it because they display a symptom that is unique to the disorder. There are many different symptoms for pituitary disorder. Adults can end up with decreased muscle mass, low libido, poor appetite and fatigue. Children that have pituitary disorder may display the symptom of delayed growth. Those who suffer from the disorder can end up with one system of pituitary disorder, or they can end up with several symptoms. Thus, those who only display one symptom should still see a doctor as they could have the disorder.
Pituitary Disorder and Gland Hormone Deficiencies: As you know, a pituitary disorder occurs when the pituitary gland is not working properly. That is because there are deficiencies with certain hormones. The imbalance of those hormones causes a pituitary disorder. The first hormone is the growth hormone. It actually helps with brain development, and is very important. The next hormones are the luteinizing hormones and the follicle stimulating hormones. These hormones are directly related to the sex drive of individuals. Prolactin is needed for breast milk to be secreted and the thyroid stimulating hormone is related directly to the thyroid, which means too much of it will make someone be too energetic and thin, and not enough will make them sluggish and also cause them to gain weight. The ATCH hormone helps with the response to stress, and vasopressin keeps the electrolyte balance in the body.
Pituitary Disorder and Symptom Realization: once someone realizes they have a symptom of a pituitary disorder, it is essential they go to a doctor. A doctor can put them on medication for their disorder, which will allow the gland to get back into balance. This will help them live a healthy and happy life. Symptoms should never be ignored. A pituitary disorder will not go away on its own, and in most cases, it will get much worse if it goes untreated. Therefore, one should always discuss their symptoms with a doctor so the doctor can decide on a course of treatment. One does not have to be certain they have the disorder before they go to a doctor. They can go to the doctor, have tests run, and then let the doctor discover if they have the disorder or not.

Vaginal hysterectomy the procedure and recoveryA hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus; the procedure is generally performed by a gynecologist instead of a general surgeon. A hysterectomy maybe total meaning the removal of the body, fundus and cervix of the uterus. Or partial, which entails the removal of the uterine body but leaving the cervix in place. It is one of the most commonly performed gynecological surgical procedures. The procedure in itself is quite radical and is it renders the patient unable to bear children it is reserved for a few conditions. Like cancers of the reproductive system , prophylactically, in cases of endometriosis, post partum in women in cases of placenta praevia and many others. Vaginal hysterectomy procedure or also known as laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy has become really popular in nowadays with all those involved in the procedure: patient, doctor and family members. This is because the procedure is not all that invasive as a total abdominal hysterectomy neither is it that radical. The procedure is also favored by most patients since the bleeding is very minimal in this case as compared to the radical total abdominal hysterectomy, the procedure is also not performed under a general anesthesia and is performed under local one. This also eliminates most of the complications related to the anesthesia. The post operative recovery time in this procedure is also much lesser the total hospitalization time is also reduced as are the chances of post operative complications. The procedure is performed so in a manner so that the final removal of the uterus is done through the vagina. But this procedure gives the gynecologist the option of leaving the cervix behind, this is known as laparoscopic assisted supracervical hysterectomy. This is done so that the patient can retain the pleasure of sexual activity post procedure. This is done using an instrument called the morcellator which cuts the uterus into small pieces which then are removed from the abdominal cavity through laparoscopic ports. In cases of large multifibroid uteri total laparoscopic hysterectomy can be performed with on site morcellation. Total hysterectomy causes the patient to undergo menopause much earlier as well as with a bilateral oopherectomy which entails removal of both the ovaries the blood estrogen level starts to fall. This can cause heart disease as well as many musculoskeletal disorders in women post procedure. Procedural side effects include , hemorrhage, risk of infection and side effects related to anesthesia used in the procedure. Eventually women may also need to start treatment with oral hormone replacement therapy. This is generally a consideration made to ease the transition of women into menopause, the risk being that HRT may increase the risk of breast cancer in menopausal hysterectomized women. The advantages and disadvantages should carefully be evaluated before you start treatment. Women post procedure have also complained of chronic fatigue syndrome. And there is also the possibility to have a decreased libido and hence the sex life generally takes a hit, this however can be avoided by HRT.... continue

The procedure entails, the doctor removing the uterus and the cervix surgically. This means generally a transverse or a horizontal incision is made into the abdominal wall, this is always dependent on the cause of the elective surgery, and the size of the area being treated. Miscarriage Symptom Early: In an effort to try and stop a miscarriage from happening, many people are looking for the miscarriage symptom early. If you are watching and waiting for a symptom to happen so that you can stop the condition from going forward, be warned, you may not know what is the miscarriage symptom. After you experience cramping in the lower back or abdomen, or you experience vaginal bleeding, contact your doctor as this is a common early symptom to take notice of. Also, when it comes to miscarriage symptom detection, pregnancy to pregnancy, these will be different. In other words, the symptoms you have this time may not be the same as next time. Therefore, you need to be aware of any symptoms that could happen so that you can slow the process.
Miscarriage Symptom Sign: As you consider the various miscarriage symptom sign that may tell you that your pregnancy is at risk, realize that it can be hard to spot in some individuals, In fact, for some, it may be impossible to spot the miscarriage symptom condition more often as there may be no early warning signs at all. You may find yourself with a gush of fluid leaving the vagina and then heavy bleeding that follows. While worrisome, there may be no way to predict that miscarriage symptom. A blighted ovum, a distinct sign of a problem, may be something your doctor can spot after this situation occurs, if you get to the emergency room.
Miscarriage Symptom Missed: Do you feel as if you had a miscarriage symptom missed? As stated, many women do not have any type of symptom that alerts them to their condition. In fact, for some women, there is no warning except for the onset of heavy bleeding. In these situations, the best that you can do is to know what the typical miscarriage symptom is. Early pregnancy is the most common time for this to happen, during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. During this time, any heavy bleeding, intense cramping, or a sudden stop in morning sickness or breast tenderness report it to your doctor, as these are common symptoms of a potential miscarriage and reported.
Miscarriage Symptom Post: You have had a miscarriage symptom. Post this symptom, what do you do? If you have had a symptom of miscarriage, pick up the phone and speak with your doctor. If the symptom is obviously a miscarriage, such as a sudden onset of heavy bleeding, seek out your local emergency room as soon as possible. You will also need to keep in mind that many miscarriages do not happen in this sudden way. There may be signs of trouble for a day or so prior, such as slight bleeding, discharge, and cramping. In this case, contact your doctor and find out if they would like to see you immediately. In most cases, your doctor can tell you if you should worry, or not worry, right from that one phone call.

Lung carcinomaLung cancer is one of the commonly occurring cancers and currently is the leading contributor to the deaths related to cancers worldwide. The global rise in lung cancer incidence, together with the fact that the overall 5-year survival of patients with this disease is less than 15%, underscores the magnitude of the lung cancer epidemic. The current chapter focuses on recent developments regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The vast majority of NSCLCs are caused by cigarette smoking. Cigarette smoke contains over 300 chemicals, 40 of which are known to be potent carcinogens. Of particular significance, nitrosamine 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridil)-1-butanone (NNK), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as benzo[a]pyrene induce pulmonary carcinomas in rodents that exhibit histologic and molecular genetics profiles virtually identical to those of human lung cancers. Whereas the vast majority of lung cancers are attributable to cigarette smoking, fewer than 20% of smokers develop this disease. Although these observations suggest a genetic predisposition to lung cancer, to date, the genes conferring susceptibility to this disease remain elusive. The designation non small cell carcinoma of the lung refers to a group of commonly observed pulmonary neoplasm’s that are typically associated with cigarette smoking and share the common property of not being responsive to small cell carcinoma treatment protocols. Through the 1960s, the predominant type of non small cell carcinoma was squamous cell carcinoma. Although the overall incidence of lung cancer has dramatically increased over the past 30 years, the relative incidence of squamous cell carcinoma has decreased, and adenocarcinoma has become the dominant cell type. Large cell carcinomas are composed of large cells without cytoplasmic differentiation and account for approximately 15% of all lung cancers. Squamous cell carcinoma may present clinically in the periphery of the lung as a small sub pleural nodule with the gross appearance and overall prognosis of a peripheral adenocarcinoma. However, squamous cell carcinoma typically arises in proximal segmental bronchi via progression through stages of dysplasia. In its earliest form (carcinoma in situ), malignant squamous cells spread over the bronchial surface, often involving sub mucosal glands, without invasion through the basement membrane. The signs and symptoms manifested by patients suffering from lung cancer depend on the histologic features of the tumor and the extent of loco regional invasion, as well as the location, size, and number of distant metastases. Many patients present with an asymptomatic lesion discovered incidentally on chest radiograph. Tumors arising in the larger airways may cause persistent cough, wheezing, or haemoptysis. Typically, patients with haemoptysis experience blood-streaked sputum; massive bleeding is rarely seen at presentation. Continued growth of endobronchial tumors frequently results in atelectasis with or without pneumonia and abscess. If pleural surfaces are involved, either by the primary tumor or associated infection, pleuritic pain may develop with or without detectable pleural effusion. The loss of lung function usually is associated with dyspnoea, the severity of which depends on the amount of lung involved and the patient’s underlying pulmonary reserve. Depending on its location, the primary tumor can invade the chest wall, producing either stabbing or burning radicular pain or pleural effusion.... continue
Low blood pressureBlood pressure is basically the total peripheral resistance that a artery generates towards blood flow. This total peripheral resistance leads to a pressure being exerted on the vessel walls, this pressure is what our physicians measure using a device called a sphygmo manometer. The optimal blood pressures for any body is 120-135mmhg systolic and between 60-85mmhg diastolic. When we talk about the systolic and diastolic blood pressures, they are in direct reference to the cardiac cycle. A systole is when the heart is in depolarization or when the heart contracts to push blood through the left ventricle into the aorta and eventually other arteries of the body. The diastole in contrast is the stage in the cardiac cycle when the heart is in repolarization or relaxation in this phase the mitral and tricuspid valves separating the left and right ventricles from the left and right atriums open and allow the blood to flow into them for the eventually systole to take pace again. A person is said to have low blood pressure or hypotension as it is known in physiology or medicine when a person tends to have BP values below than the normal interval. This is not really considered disease but is understood as physiological state instead. Low blood pressure in an individual may also be a symptom of an underlying more serious disease, and is mostly related to conditions of shock, if one has extreme hypotension it can be life threatening and person go into shock, in such moments it is imperative to raise a person blood pressure by using potent vasoconstrictive drugs and atropine should be promptly administered. A patient may suffer from hypotension in various conditions; increased parasympathetic stimulation is the most common cause of a dip in blood pressure among healthy individuals, for eg in case of vagal syncopy or other vagal reactions. Hypovolemia is the other cause of hypotension, this generally results from excessive use of diuretic medication or sometimes after a massive hemorrhage internal or external which may lead to sustained blood loss and as a sequale cause decreased fluid volume causing hypotension. This is another emergency situation and fluid balance should be corrected promptly using transfusions. Other anti hypertensive medications may cause hypotension through different mechanisms. Hypotension is also a sign of chronically ill patients, such as patients suffering from congestive heart failure in which case the blood volume is normal but the cardiac out ptu is decreased resulting in decreased perfusion and resulting in low blood pressure. Orthstatic hypotension is a condition in which the blood pressure falls depending on the postural position of the person. This sort of hypotension is generally transient and represents a delay in the compensatory ability of the ANS. It is generally seen when volume compromised patients stand up briskly after being in a seated or lying position for extended periods of time.
The treatment for low blood pressure basicall depends on the underlying cause of the condition. If the cause is eliminated or treated optimally the low blood pressure is eliminated.... continue

what Is Hypoglycemia Reactive and What Are The Symptoms?: Hypoglycemia is a condition in which a patient has low blood sugar. Reactive hypoglycemia is just that, hypoglycemia that reacts to the food you eat, and effects can normally be seen within 1 to 3 hours after a meal is ingested. However, there are some cases in which the cause of reactive hypoglycemia and its symptoms is not clear. Some of the symptoms and signs of reactive hypoglycemia include clumsiness, shakiness, weakness, dizziness, hunger, sweating, pounding heartbeat, anxiety, and confusion. If you notice any of these signs after you have eaten a meal, then it would be wise to schedule an appointment with your family doctor or your current health care provider. Without some sort of action from you or your doctor, the situation will not correct itself. It can actually be difficult to diagnose the condition, because many of the conditions can be attributed to other causes. Your doctor will provide a medical evaluation to determine whether your blood glucose level is to blame, and will also determine whether or not the symptoms will be resolved once the levels are regulated.... continue
