A stationary bike is commonly known as exercise bicycle or bike. It is equipment which is designed like a bicycle which is used for exercise rather than transportation. These bikes are very useful and handy they come in all sorts of size and shapes. Compared to a conventional thread mill which are lot heavier occupying a lot of space and very hard to move around, stationary bikes are lighter occupying little space. This is the perfect piece of exercise equipment for those who like to workout at the comforts of their homes. The bike consists of a handle bar, a seat and peddles. Stationary bikes have gained popularity because they burn a lot of calories and reducing that extra fat. It is good equipment for cardiovascular workout and provides a complete exercise to the body. This is most preferred by people who are too busy and cannot afford to go to gym or those who prefer to work out in the comfort of their home. It is quite helpful for beginners and trained athletes.
The work out includes starting to ride bike at a minimum speed for a time period until one feels exhausted and gradually trying to increase the speed and the time limit of the cycling. One can also increase the resistance in order to build their calf muscle and there thigh muscles. In some bikes there are monitors showing heart rate and the calories burnt, the user can set a program where the bike is set to a predetermined rate and calories wanting to be burnt and cycle till it is reached. There are some contraindications for using stationary bike; people who are suffering from cardiac disease should always consult the doctor before they start the workout. The cardiac disease might manifest when the cardiac rate increases which demands extra oxygen to the cardiac muscle, so it is always advisable to consult the doctor before starting work out regime on the stationary bike.
