Low Level of Male Testosterone is Common after Testicular Cancer

Testosterone is a steroid hormone that is produced in the male testes and is responsible for masculine secondary characteristics. Testosterone is also secreted in the ovaries of women. It is also an anabolic steroid. Testosterone plays a key role in libido, the production of red blood cells, and increased energy. Since testosterone is a predominately male hormone, men produce more than double the amount of testosterone than women. Since testosterone is secreted from the testes, when a man gets testicular cancer and his testes are removed, anabolic steroids are given to him in order for him to produce adequate levels of testosterone.

Male Testosterone Level: Deficiency
Levels of testosterone decrease with age, which means men can’t get it up or keep it up as quickly and as long as they could when their hormones were raging in their teens and twenties. However male testosterone deficiency is as a result of disease or damage to the hypothalamus, testicles and/or pituitary gland.
Male Testosterone: Hormone Therapy
Male testosterone is the hormone that is responsible for the development of the penis, testicles, scrotum and seminal vesicles. It also governs the development of male characteristics such as bone mass, hair patterns, and deep voice. Normal testosterone levels are responsible for maintaining energy, sexual desire and good moods. Hormone therapy is needed when testosterone levels become abnormally low. Also, women tend to get hormone replacement therapy when they go through menopause.
